SDH Advanced Developments
This project aimed to promote a local business. The owners wanted a website which would display their available services and past work to act as a new front for advertisement. The solution entailed the creation of a database driven website with a secure back-end, which can be used to modify and update the content on the website. Google Adwords and other promotional services were used, along with SEO.
I first produced several designs using Adobe Photoshop and GIMP. The best design was then developed and built upon using Adobe Dreamweaver, HTML and CSS. Using PHP and a MySQL database, the site was made dynamic and content could be modified 'on the fly' using the back-end editor I developed.
The back-end editor I developed uses the TinyMCE JavaScript editor which provides a very nice way of editing content. I also implemented tools to edit the photo gallery present on the site, which includes the uploading and resizing of images through PHP.
Apart from the TinyMCE editor, JavaScript was also used to add functionality to certain parts of the website, such as the gallery where a 'light box' is used. My main goal was very high cross-compatibility and backwards compatibility; I tested the finished website on several browsers.
After the website had been developed, I chose and suitable web host and deployed the finished product for them. The website was then advertised on several business directories, Facebook and Google. I continue to provide on-going support and maintenance to the business.
